Watercraft Rentals & Policies
- Age & License Requirement:
Renters must be at least 18 years old and provide a valid driver’s license at the time of rental.
Please note: A Minnesota Watercraft Operator Permit may be required to operate motorized boats—see details below. - Reservations:
Motorized watercraft should be reserved at the time of booking to guarantee availability. Same-day rentals may be offered if units are available. - Cancellations:
Guests who cancel upon arrival or choose not to use reserved equipment are still responsible for the agreed-upon rate, as each rental is held specifically for you. - Fuel & Supplies:
Gas is not included in daily or weekly rental rates. Fuel and bait are conveniently available for purchase on-site. - Non-Motorized Rentals:
Canoes, paddle boards, and kayaks are available for same-day rental on a first-come, first-served basis. - Weekly Returns:
Weekly boat rentals must be returned by 5:00 PM on Friday so they can be refueled before the restaurant’s busy hours.
**New Boating Law – Operator Permit Required (Effective July 1, 2025)
Minnesota is introducing a new Watercraft Operator’s Permit requirement to improve boating safety. Beginning July 1, 2025, operators 21 years and younger must possess a valid permit to operate motorboats and personal watercraft (PWCs).
The law will gradually expand over the next few years to include older age groups:
- Born on or after July 1, 2004 – Required starting July 1, 2025
- Born on or after July 1, 2000 – Required starting July 1, 2026
- Born on or after July 1, 1996 – Required starting July 1, 2027
- Born on or after July 1, 1987 – Required starting July 1, 2028
Visitors from other states who already hold a valid watercraft operator’s certificate or permit issued by their home state do not need to obtain another one in Minnesota.
If you don’t have a permit, you can earn one by completing the Minnesota DNR’s NASBLA-approved Boating Safety Course, available online at mndnr.gov/boatingcourse.
Note:
- Youth under 12 may operate motorboats with less than 75 horsepower only if accompanied by an adult in the boat.
- Many insurance companies offer discounts to operators who complete a certified boating safety course.
